Announcing pygrib2-20041213
===========================
What is it?
===========
A python module for reading GRIB edition 2 (GRIB2) files. Includes a
python programmer interface for reading GRIB2 grids as well as a
command-line utility (rdgrib) much like Wesley Ebisuzaki's wgrib
(http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/wesley/wgrib.html). This package
can't read GRIB edition 1 files directly, but these files can be converted
to GRIB2 using cnvgrib (http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/codes/GRIB2/)
What the heck is GRIB2?
=======================
GRIB2 is the second version of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
standard for distributing gridded data. The standard is outlined in FM92
GRIB Edition 2, Code Form and Tables
(http://www.wmo.ch/web/www/DPS/grib-2.html). Most operational centers
still distribute their data in GRIB1 format, but will be transitioning to
GRIB2 soon. The U.S. National Weather Service has been an early adopter,
and distributes much of their forecast model output in GRIB2
(http://www.nws.noaa.gov/tg/anonymous.html).
Where can I download it?
