mpGridAndLimbOn not always working

Greetings,

I just love pyngl and I have a small problem! :) I can't seem to always
prevent the Latitude/Longitude tickmarks from appearing on my plots. I am
probably doing something wrong. Check out:

The script has this set:

res.mpGridAndLimbOn = False

But the lat and lon tickmarks (are they called limbs?) are still
appearing.

I am probably missing what mpGridAndLimbOn does? Anybody straighten me
out?
