I'm also strongly in favor of the proposed change. Besides promoting
good programming style it will make Ngl consistent with the way
other Python modules are implemented (no module prefix 'xxx_' in
front of function names). In addition, as John Ertl said, this is a
good time to make big changes like this, before there is too much
'legacy' code.
