how to have the x-bottome major tick off?

Hi, everyone
I'm trying to draw a polygon picture or say bar chart, like the link below:
 http://www.pyngl.ucar.edu/Examples/Images/bar2.0.png

And I got one problem. I wanna have the X-Bottom label On, but the X-Bottom Major Tick Off.
But there's only resource liketmXBMinorOn, no some resource like tmXBMajorOn.
And the Major stick is still there even if I settmXBMajorThicknessF to 0.
So I'm wondering if there's any solution?
