Yes, unfortunately. You can't determine the maximization values of
individual
plots if they don't know about the other plots. That's why Ngl.panel
works, because
it knows about the other plots.

In your case, you will need to come up with a way to maximize the
area within
the unit square that you're drawing to. I'll try to come up with an
example for you.
