install and libgfortran problems in Ubuntu 8.10

Hi,

I tried installing the latest PyNio (1.3.0b1) from the binary version,
and on typing "import nio" I get:

ImportError: libgfortran.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such
file or directory

I saw from some older mails that this is due to PyNio being compiled
against an old gfortran. As I'd like to keep my software up to latest
Ubuntu standards, and compiling from source is non-trivial, I wonder if
there will be a new release of PyNio soon which will work with Ubuntu
8.10 out-of-the-box?

Some other details

uname -a: Linux laptop 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC
2008 i686 GNU/Linux

gcc --version: gcc (Ubuntu 4.3.2-1ubuntu11) 4.3.2

gfortran --version: GNU Fortran (Ubuntu 4.3.2-1ubuntu11) 4.3.2

Thanks,

Dave
