the ECMWF and NCEP grib files have data which are in spherical
harmonics.
On the ncl list Dennis Shea has pointed to an NCL call 'cc2g' that
takes the harmonics data and puts it on a gaussian grid.
Is this functionality available in PyNGL/pyNIO? - I am aware that there
are packages to handle spherical harmonics in python but I feel that
this particular application is in the purview of an I/O service of
data which is very commonly accessed.
